Children to help with Lynn play area revamp
THE playground in The Friars area of Lynn will be closed for the next ten weeks as work to give it a complete makeover gets under way.
The transformation comes following consultation with residents last October, and is being carried out with the help of children at Whitefriars Primary School.
Pupils will be participating in a workshop to create signs which will adorn an archway entrance into the new play space, while local artist Jo Spaul will be creating colourful artwork for the site, and sculptural benches and seating.
Work on the play area is the latest in a programme of schemes by the Improving Neighbourhoods Board, designed to make five neighbourhoods – Lynn town centre, Gaywood, Fairstead, and North and South Lynn – greener and more pleasant for residents.
The board's greenspace assistant Michelle Parker said: "We had a really good turnout for the consultation and we were pleased with the designs which came out on top.
"The space is going to look great when it's finished and the fact that so many people have been involved in both design and creation is really positive. We hope it will be an area for everyone to enjoy for many years to come."
The board is made up of residents and representatives from key service providers including West Norfolk Council and Freebridge Community Housing and is tasked with allocating the 3.6 million made available to the area through the Safer Stronger Communities Fund.
