Clenchwarton's Gail to be TV castaway
CLENCHWARTON hairdresser Gail Maycroft is set to trim inches off her waist when she stars in GMTV's diet and fitness series, Inch-Loss Island.
Mrs Maycroft (44) is over the moon to be joining three other female volunteers on a secret location cut off from the outside world.
Four top experts will be joining the calorie-counting castaways to help change their eating and exercise habits for life.
Nutritionist Amanda Hamilton will cook up healthy mouth-watering menus while celebrity fitness guru Mark Anthony will put the women through their paces.
Life coach Pete Cohen joins the team for daily one-to-one counselling and Dr Hilary Jones brings medical help and advice.
Bubbly Mrs Maycroft knows the five-day intensive programme will be no piece of cake, but is at her "width's" end after failing at other diets.
"I've lost weight before, but it has a way of finding me again. I'm a huge fan of GMTV and over the years I've never missed an episode of Inch-Loss Island," said Mrs Maycroft, who owns the Top Notch salon in Hall Road.
"This time I finally swallowed my nerves and decided to write a letter to the station and apply. I didn't tell anyone about it, but now I've been picked, the whole village knows. I feel like the luckiest person in the world and simply can't wait to get started."
Knowing how long she's wanted to get into shape, Mrs Maycroft's family and friends are rallying behind her.
"My husband, Mark, is backing me 100 per cent.
"I'm now hoping that I'll come back so healthy that my diet habits will rub off on him."
Sixteen-stone Mrs Maycroft is also excited to be meeting Kate Garraway who'll present the health series, but even more thrilled to hear Strictly Come Dancing star, Anton du Beke, will be there too.
"I used to dance years ago – but it doesn't compare to the amazing moves he performs. I've tried gyms in the past but find them boring, so I'm sure the exciting dancing lessons from him will help me drop dress sizes for good," she said.
Inch-Loss Island starts on Monday with viewers introduced to the castaways and experts throughout the week.
They will be stranded on the island from Monday, January 21.
