Clenchwarton: Probe after woman found dead
AN elderly woman was found dead in her smoke-filled home in Clenchwarton this morning (Friday).
Fire investigation and police officers are now at the scene trying to piece together what happened.
Traffic was diverted around the village for around an hour after emergency services were initially called to the home in Main Road.
A Norfolk police spokesman said: "Police were called at 8.17am this morning to a fire at a house on Main Road in Clenchwarton where a female has sadly died.
"We are currently awaiting a home office forensic scientist to examine the scene, together with our crime scene investigators and fire service investigators. At this time the cause of the fire is unexplained."
Police have asked the Lynn News not to publish the name of the 70-year-old victim until her family have been informed.
A member of the public is understood to have called the fire service after spotting smoke in the house.
A fire crew from Terrington and two from Lynn went to the scene.
Police officers are now stationed at the driveway of the home and a cordon surrounds it.
