College: £100m but two thirds the size
LYNN'S planned £100 million college has to be reduced in size by at least a third, it has been revealed.
But plans for what the new College of West Anglia campus will look like have been finalised. The sale of the land it is being built on is still being negotiated.
The college is due to move into its new home at the Nar Ouse Regeneration Area site at South Lynn (currently the recycling centre) in 2010.
It is still on target for that date but talks about the sale of the land and have been continuing for several months.
Meanwhile the current Tennyson Avenue campus is likely to be sold for a massive housing development, changing the Lynn skyline.
This will almost certainly mean a lot of buildings on the site being demolished.
The man in charge of the huge project, assistant principal Mr Richard Williamson, said he is delighted with how the plans for the new college have been progressing since the decision to move was made in 2002.
He said the reaction he has received from the public is generally one of excitement.
"We have had a very positive public consultation process," he said.
The new plans drawn up by the architects over the last few months include state-of-the-art facilities for staff and students.
