Community praised after five elderly people rescued in care home blaze

FIVE residents at an Ingoldisthorpe care home were rescued by firefighters after a blaze broke out in the dining room.

Manager of Manor Farm Care Home, Gill Gibbons has praised her residents for their “wartime spirit”, her staff and the community for their help and support following yesterday’s fire.

Crews from Sandringham, Heacham and Hunstanton were called to the care home at 10.30am.

Staff were able to evacuate half of the home’s 10 residents.

But one man and four women were unable to leave and sheltered in a room above the dining room until rescued by firefighters.

No-one was injured in the blaze.

The dining room suffered cosmetic damage.

Mrs Gibbons said she was touched that people rallied around to clean the home so residents were able to remain there last night.

She said: “We are a family, we are not a home.

“Thanks to everyone who helped to save Manor Farm. Words are inadequate.”
