Councillors put up parking prices at Snettisham beach
LOCKED CAR PARK AT SNETTISHAM No Entry! The locked car park gates in Beach Road, Snettisham
Villagers and visitors to a beach will soon be forking out more for parking.
Snettisham Parish Council says it has had to put up its prices at the village’s beach car park due to rising costs.
Councillors last week agreed a raft of changes, which includes the introduction of a winter charge and a large rise for the residents’ seasonal passes.
Chairman Eric Langford said the running costs are estimated to be £30,000. The council will be taking on an additional attendant and its rent fees will be rising from £3,000 to £12,000.
He said: “The council has never really run the car park as a proper business and it has had to rely on lots of volunteers.
“This is the first time we have had a comprehensive business plan put together to see where we are and what it is costing. We need to make sure we pay the rent and upping the costs might help to reduce the local rate payment.”
From March 29, the summer full day ticket will rise from £3 to £5 while the half-day cost will be £2.50. A winter weekend pass of £5 will apply between November and March.
Residents’ season passes will increase from £12 to £25, but the council will be selling villagers a discounted pass of £15 at its offices between March 18 and 23. Alternatively, residents can send a self-addressed envelope during that week.
A protest was sparked last year when the council closed the car park in November.
