Couple plan 18-mile walk

A COUPLE who suffered the tragedy of the death of their baby are doing their bit for the Lynn News Special Care Baby Appeal.

Joanne Younge and partner Jason Archer, both aged 30, were devastated when their daughter Ruby was born with a serious brain defect.

The couple had only nine weeks with Ruby before she died and throughout that time they had the support of staff at Lynn's Queen Elizabeth Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

Miss Younge said: "It was a horrible time, but the staff were brilliant. They were always there for us and we just want to give something back."

Miss Younge and tyre fitter Mr Archer, of West Winch, are doing a sponsored walk of the 18 or so miles from the village to Hunstanton on Thursday, April 16.

The couple, who have three other children – Ryan (14), Georgie (11) and Josh (seven) – suffered their tragedy in June 2007 and have never forgotten what the staff at the unit did for them.

The appeal aims to raise 150,000 for a vital expansion and revamp of the under pressure unit to allow it care for more babies and create a second overnight parents' room.

To sponsor Miss Younge and Mr Archer contact them on 07904 012649.
