Court gives second ban to drink-driver
A LATVIAN motorist caught driving while nearly four times over the drink driving limit appeared before Lynn magistrates on Monday.
Alexsandrs Komarovs had one previous similar conviction after which he said he had an injection which made him ill if he drank alcohol for the next three years.
Komarovs (39), of 27 Lansdowne Street, Lynn, admitted driving in King Street, Lynn, with 127 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The limit is 35.
He was banned from driving for three years and given a one-year community order including 200 hours unpaid work and probation supervision. Costs of 60 were imposed.
Miss Susanna Chowdhury, prosecuting, said police were called to the scene of a two-vehicle collision at 3.45pm on July 29 this year. Komarovs got out of his car and walked towards them.
Alcohol could be smelled on his breath and a roadside breath test proved positive.
Komarovs had one previous conviction for drink driving, in June 2004, after which he was banned from driving for two years, she added.
Through an interpreter, Komarovs told the court that after his last conviction he had been given an injection in his own country which made him ill if he drank alcohol and lasted for three years.
He was seeking help in the UK with his drink problem.
A driving ban would not affect his work, he added.
