Crack-down over caravan site conditions

CARAVAN site owners are being warned that trading standards staff are cracking-down on unfair conditions.

Static site owners are under the spotlight where only they are able to buy back vans on the site, for not allowing vans more than three years old to be sold with the pitches or insisting only one contractor is used for maintenance and repairs.

"Some owners might not complain through fear of challenging the system. We want to work with site owners to resolve any issues," said Shaun Norris, assistant head of Norfolk County Council trading standards.

He warned that legal action was an option to protect the rights of caravan owners. Trading standards staff have been told of an owner of a van on a Norfolk site who lost around 20,000 because it was more than three years old and, according to the site owner, could not be sold with the pitch.
