Demons racing in right direction
A BMX club aimed at keeping youngsters on the right side of the track has received the welcome boost of 11 new bikes thanks to support from The Prince's Trust.
The Demon Bikers, based in North Lynn, bought the bikes following a successful application to The Big Boost, a scheme aimed at empowering young people.
Their efforts were also helped by a generous discount from Lynn’s Halfords store, at Campbell’s Meadow in Hardwick Road, which supplied the new equipment to members.
The club was formed around a year ago following a meeting with a group of young people who found themselves in trouble with the police and the local housing association.
They were asked what activities they would like to take part in and BMX riding was the most popular request.
The youngsters started to attend the North Lynn Discovery Centre and are now regular volunteers.
Centre manager Jimmy Yallop said: “The group intends to race, jump and pass on its skills to other children and young people.
“This initiative shows how partnership working and listening to young people’s needs can eliminate problems within the community.
“These lads are definitely heading in the right direction and are a pleasure to work with.”
