Dersingham accountant gets £4,608 from run for charity
A DERSINGHAM accountant clocked up a terrific total for the Norfolk Hospice Tapping House when he completed the Great North Run.
Michael Andrews raised 4,608 for the Snettisham-based charity and completed the 13-mile race in one hour 46 minutes, comfortably meeting his two-hour target.
Mr Andrews, an employee at Stephenson Smart, said: "I was delighted with my time although this was put into perspective somewhat when I only just managed to overtake a runner pushing an occupied wheelchair close to the finish line!"
The half marathon, held last month, has given him the bug for charity challenges and Mr Andrews is already thinking of what to do next.
He added: "A bike ride might be best, it's slightly easier on the legs! The atmosphere at the event was fantastic. The crowd really carry you round with such brilliant support.
"Everyone has been extremely generous, from friends and family to a wide range of local companies and everyone at Stephenson Smart. I really appreciate all their support and it's great to know this money is going to support a worthwhile local charity which helps people throughout Norfolk as well as The Fens, when they need it most."
Hospice fundraising manager Mr Rob Cartwright expressed his thanks and said the charity could not continue without supporters going that extra mile.
The hospice is keen to hear from anyone interested in taking part in the Norwich Half Marathon, on Sunday, November 30, Lynn's Great East Anglia Run in May and the 2010 London Marathon. Call the fundraising team on 01485 542891 to find out more.
