Desert trek on Arabian horse
HAVING tackled a 100-mile ride across Iceland on a horse called Taxis in 2006, Alison Richardson is planning another trek, this one through the Jordanian desert.
Mounted this time on an Arabian horse, the commercial agent who works for Brown and Co at Lynn will be trekking across Wadi Rum, riding through sand dunes, canyons and dry oasis for six days in April.
“Living off traditional Jordanian dishes and sleeping under canvas, we are facing cold nights, unpredictable weather and sandstorms,” she said. “It is going to be a challenge but I am greatly looking forward to it – and particularly the breathtaking scenery.”
She will also have to bond with her spirited Arabian horse which is used to the Bedouin style of riding.
While raising funds for the British Horse Society Welfare Fund, Alison and her trekking companions plan to visit the Brook Clinic at Petra.
The Brook charity works to improve the lives of horses, donkeys and mules working in the poorest parts of the world where they are often the backbone of the ecocnomy.
The group will present gifts to the clinic including headcollars, girths and numnahs to prevent saddle sores.
Alison is sponsored by Brown and Co, Holly Landscapes, B.W. Mack and Glazewing Waste Management.
