Died after fall down stairs

BIRTHDAY celebrations ended in tragedy when a 53-year-old classroom assistant fell down the stairs of her home and died.

At an inquest yesterday coroner William Armstrong heard that Tania Bunting, of Narford, had been drinking at home with her husband Peter and friends, celebrating Mr Bunting’s birthday on October 15.

Mr Bunting said his wife went to bed just after midnight and he fell asleep on the sofa.

At about 2am Mr Bunting found his wife at the bottom of the stairs and thought she had passed out.

He took her into the study where he made her a bed and tucked her in before going upstairs.

However, when he checked on his wife at 7am she was unresponsive and paramedics pronounced her dead.

A specimen of blood showed an alcohol reading of 223 milligrams (the drink-drive limit is 80).

Mr Armstrong recorded a verdict that Mrs Bunting had died accidentally from a fall at home.

He said: “It is manifestly clear to me that Tania would have died straight away, as soon as her head hit the bottom of the stairs.”
