Dirty burglars ransack Wimbotsham home
BURGLARS stole jewellery, cash and three cheque books from the home of an elderly Wimbotsham couple as they visited their granddaughter on her birthday.
Ron (72) and Margaret Laws (70) returned home on Friday night to discover their West Way home had been ransacked by burglars, who searched through drawers, cupboards and wardrobes before escaping.
Among the items stolen was a selection of jewellery collected by Mrs Laws in nearly 50 years of marriage and money set aside by the couple as Christmas gifts for their grandchildren.
The incident happened some time between 6.30pm and 9.30pm and police believe the burglars forced entry through a ground-floor rear window.
Mrs Laws said: "I could not believe it. When we got home I could see the curtain had been pulled back and they had come in through the window.
"They took all my jewellery and they went upstairs and ransacked there, they left mud everywhere.
"This is the first time we have suffered anything like this and we have lived here for nearly 40 years."
Mr Laws believes his home was targeted by an experienced team of burglars after he found a shovel propped against a chair which he thinks could have been used as a weapon had they returned home early.
Anyone who may have information about the burglary should contact Lynn Police Station on 0845 456 4567.
