Docking youngsters gain cycling success
YOUNGSTERS at Docking Primary School are riding high after passing a cycling proficiency course with flying colours.
The ten-year-olds picked up certificates after they took the school's voluntary On Road Cycling Course and proved they could ride safely on the roads.
The children had to show they could balance a bike with one hand to indicate, and show awareness of what was happening on the roads.
They also learned how to understand traffic, what road signs meant, the importance of wearing a safety helmet, how to maintain their bikes and much more.
The course involved a written test which all of them excelled in and three pupils, Evie Griffiths, Lewis Parker and Harry Burt, achieved the highest possible marks.
The pupils were put through their paces by cycling proficiency co-ordinator Dolores Kissock and her helper Huw Griffiths. Mrs Kissock decided to launch the course at the school two to three years ago because of how dangerous the main road outside the school can be.
"The course gives the children a good start in their cycling life, which is particularly important as Docking is a busy village and the school is on the main road," she said.
Norfolk police's area casualty reduction officer Sandy Reed was also involved and commented on what a good group of children they were.
