Downham man conned out of cash
CONMEN convinced an elderly man they were investigating a water problem and then lifted a haul of cash from his home, in the latest of a string of similar attacks.
The victim, in his 70s, was distracted in the kitchen by one man as the other searched his home and stole what police have described as "a large quantity of cash".
The men got into their victim's home in Bexwell Road, Downham, through an unlocked door and fed him their story when they discovered him in the living room, between 3.30pm and 4.10pm on Tuesday.
A man with a similar story tricked his way into a home in Dawnay Avenue, Gaywood, last month but left empty-handed when the householder began asking questions.
The week before 83-year-old Alice Stimpson, was pinned down in a chair and her house ransacked, when three men tricked their way into her home in Northwold.
Both men in the latest attack were white. One was aged about 35 while the other appeared to be 25-30 years old.
Anyone who saw what happened or has any other information should contact DC Ian Young at Downham police station on 0845 456 4567 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
