DOWNHAM MARKET: Dance show heralds era of the snake
School pupils watch a Chinese New Year dance in Downham Market by the James Uglow Lion Dance Group in the town's market square.
It may officially be the year of the snake, but it looked like the year of the lion as Downham marked the Chinese New Year this week.
Hundreds of school children watched the display by the James Uglow Lion Dance Group in the town square on Monday.
The display was part of a celebration event organised by the town council.
The lion dance is believed to bring good luck and is traditionally performed at the Chinese New Year as well as other social occasions. Many of the movements performed in the dance are common to Chinese martial arts.
