Downham event for cancer charity to be repeated

A FASHION show held in Downham this week was held as a thank-you to a cancer charity which helped a local family.

And it proved so successful, it is going to be repeated for another cancer charity in the autumn.

The event, in Downham Town Hall on Tuesday, was organised by Emma Gould for Cancer Research UK after her dad, Brian Downs, was diagnosed with cancer two years ago.

"You do not realise how much it affects you and how it affects you as a family," said Mrs Gould (34), from Holkham Close.

Her 58-year-old dad, from Methwold Hythe, had to have both chemotherapy and radiotherapy and had just been given the all-clear, she said.

He and his wife, Kathy, were supported by both Cancer Research UK and Macmillan Cancer Support – and the family could not thank them enough.

"I decided I would like to put something back," said Mrs Gould who then contacted Lincolnshire-based Lincs Fashion in order to stage the show.

Around 50 to 60 people came, friends among those taking part.

It is hoped 200 has been raised.

Mrs Gould was grateful for all the help received, including from her mum and friends Mrs Debbie Payne-English, Miss Catherine O'Sullivan and Mrs Tania Dye.

Now Mrs Gould is to stage another event, for Macmillan Cancer Support, at the town hall on Wednesday, October 7.
