Downham society celebrates 20 years

CLOCKING up two decades of loving music the Downham-based Music and Drama Appreciation Society enjoyed a meal to mark the anniversary.

The society, started by founder members Mrs Mary Painter, Mrs Jill Armsby, Mr Bill Stewart and the late Mr Ken Runswick, currently has around 60 members.

It meets at St Edmund's church hall in Downham on a monthly basis.

Events include evenings of prose, poetry and music as well as theatre trips to Norwich and Bury St Edmunds.

The society, known as MADAS, also has two charity events a year, having raised more than 7,000 for local causes since its inception.

The meal, on Monday, April 27, took place at Ryston Park Golf Club.

"What we do is a very light-hearted look at music and drama," said chairman Mrs Peggy Honeyball, who was also at the society's first meeting.

Anyone wanting more information about the group is asked to ring Mrs Honeyball on 01366 387724.
