Downham students star in 'Hollywood'
A HOLLYWOOD night complete with Oscar awards and a star-studded "walk of fame" was lined up for Downham High School leavers' prom.
Students arriving in various modes of transport stepped out along a red carpet, were snapped by “paparazzi” and sipped pink lemonade from champagne flutes.
The assembly hall was transformed by glamorous black and white swags of material and a Hollywood backdrop was designed for the official photographs.
Year 11 Head Wendy Jackson said: “The whole evening, from beginning to end, was absolutely stunning.”
Some students chose to arrive by pogo stick, hobby horse, helicopter, speedboat, sugar beet harvester, racing cars and a Cinderella-like horse and carriage.
To make them feel like stars, the Walk of Fame in Hollywood was recreated with 238 stars, one for each student, lining the floor.
Miss Jackson praised members of the prom committee for giving up their time to attend meetings and come up with fundraising ideas, including a Class of 2009 calendar.
She thanked the PTFA, parents and staff, including art head Mr Dave Setchell, for their contribution.“The students’ behaviour was exemplary, everyone had a fantastic evening and it was great to see our Hollywood dreams turn into reality,” Miss Jackson said.
