Ducks on menu for Castle Acre fun

CASTLE Acre went quackers at the weekend when the annual duck race took place.

The event is organised by Friends of Castle Acre voluntary-controlled primary school to raise funds for the school and, as usual, attracted a host of entries.

In fact some 586 ducks at 1 each were launched into the water at 2pm on Sunday from Jubilee bridge which, just outside Castle Acre, is over the River Nar.

The ducks, which were numbered, then travelled around a quarter-of-a-mile downstream to finish at South Acre ford.

A duck bought by pupil of the school Sam Martin (five), who lives in Swaffham, was declared the winner.

He won a 15 WH Smith voucher.

Releasing the ducks this year was temporary head of the school Doug Dale who said the event had been "great fun".
