Event helps appeal to keep steaming ahead
A popular family fete went full steam ahead for charity after raising around £5,000 for three local causes.
The Lynn News Hunstanton Lifeboat Appeal, the 1st Hunstanton Scouts and Guides and Heacham and District Community Car Scheme are all set to benefit thanks to the event at Snettisham's Norton Hill Light Railway.
The fete, held last Saturday and Sunday afternoon, was organised by James Lowe and fellow members of the Hunstanton and District Rotary Club, with help from the town's Inner Wheel ladies.
It was held at the railway by kind permission of owner Michael Schumann and his wife, and the proceeds will be split equally between the charities.
"I'm absolutely delighted with how the event went," said Mr Lowe. "These things can be a bit of a worry when you're organising them, but my fellow rotarians came along and put it all together for me.
"A lot of hard work was involved but it was well worth it – it went exceedingly well."
Attractions included a children's roundabout, several sideshows and games and, of course, the railway itself.
There were around a dozen stalls selling everything from plants and books to crafts and refreshments, and on Sunday there was entertainment from Hunstanton's Lavender Hill Mob Drama Club.
Crew members from the RNLI station also popped down to show their appreciation and helped out running the children's roundabout.
l The lifeboat appeal has so far raised 100,000 towards its 125,000 target to buy a new state-of-the-art inshore lifeboat.
The Atlantic 85 is faster than its predecessor, the Atlantic 75, has better handling in bad weather and new radar search equipment.
