Every Plaxtole House toilet smashed
SHOCK and outcry were the public responses to the wanton damage caused at Plaxtole House, a residential and education centre for students with learning difficulties.
They were on holiday at the time of the break-ins but, the court heard, many items of their personal property found broken or stuffed into carrier bags and some of their project work damaged.
The three-night rampage left windows and doors smashed, bookcases overturned, computers damaged, cupboards broken open and 36 chairs needing replacement.
Computers, televisions and toasters were thrown through windows and one of the youths told police in interview that between them they had smashed every toilet in the building.
Severe flooding was caused and the final bill for what was described as "an orgy of destruction" included 20,000 for damage to the fabric of the building, 10,000 for windows and 4,500 for flooring.
Students at the College of West Anglia tell in their own words how the devastation at Plaxtole House came close to seeing it closed for ever – see Tuesday's Lynn News.
