Fairstead celebrates new look

MAGICIANS and speedway riders will be helping provide fun and games at a street party in Fairstead on Tuesday to mark the completion of major refurbishments at Centre Point.

Residents will also be asked to try out their tile-making skills to create thousands of decorative tiles to make the area even brighter with a colourful display.

"The area is now much more attractive thanks to the improved planting and extra litter bins. The removal of steps and slopes has meant it is easier to access and better lighting has made it feel much safer," said Vicky Etheridge, neighbourhood manager.

The party begins at 2.30pm with an official cake-cutting, hopefully with the Speedway Stars, and the police will present a bicycle to the winner of a competition to design a logo for the new contact point for the Safer Neighbourhood Team at McColls.

Magicians will also be on hand and there will be a tombola, book raffle, refreshments and the tile making which will continue the improvements of the area.
