FAKENHAM: Cadets in church parade to mark corps anniversary
Air cadets from the 2534 Fakenham squadron paraded into the town’s parish church to mark Air Training Corps Sunday last weekend.
The event is traditionally held on the first Sunday in February in order to coincide with the anniversary of the foundation of the Air Training Corps on February 1, 1941.
Staff and cadets alike took part in the service, which included the ceremonial laying of drums to form a drum head altar and the ceremonial parading of the squadron’s banner. A representative of the squadron also read one of the lessons.
The service was led by the squadron’s chaplain, Amanda Sands.
The current Fakenham squadron, which was originally formed at the old RAF West Raynham station in 1966, is the second to have represented the town.
The first, which was formed in March 1941, was disbanded in 1973. The current squadron moved to Fakenham in 1994 when RAF West Raynham was closed by the Ministry of Defence.
The current squadron meets in the grounds of Fakenham College on Monday and Wednesday evenings and is keen to recruit new members.
Anyone aged 13 to 17 who is interested in finding out more about the group should phone 01328 864623 or 07842 258900.
