FAKENHAM: Freedom of town honour for British legion branch

A rare distinction will be highlighted at Fakenham’s Annual Assembly of the Town meeting on Monday, March 25, in the community centre.

The local branch of the Royal British Legion will be formally presented with an Honorary Freedom of the Town scroll in recognition of its significance in the local community.

In what will be a momentous year for closer ties between the legion and the council, Armed Forces Day on June 29 will witness a signing of the Community Covenant in company with a day of celebration. There will be a special service in the parish church at 11am followed by a reception at the General Townsend Club.

Plans to update the war memorial with inscriptions of locally-based service personnel who have died in action since 1948 are also well in hand.
