Fakenham: Auto Club fundraising drive brings in £4,600 for appeal

FAKENHAM Auto Club members have worked "tyrelessly" this year to raise a magnificent £4,600 for the Lynn News Special Care Baby Appeal.

Fundraising started at a St George's Day Run, a motoring tour of North Norfolk including lunch at Holkham Hall and afternoon tea at Houghton Hall.

Club president Mike Tomlin said about 60 cars took part and thanked all the local clubs which supported the event, helping to raise 155.

More than 4,000 was raised when the club celebrated its tenth anniversary in style with a special Car-Nival at Fakenham Racecourse on August 23. Mr Tomlin estimated 2,500-3,000 people enjoyed the range of attractions.

He gave special thanks to supporters of the event, including Steward Safety Supplies, Adrian Flux Insurance, H A Fox Jaguar, Hayward Land Rover, Tesco, Fakenham firefighters and police, and many local businesses which took stands. The final fundraiser was a September barbecue arranged by David Coles.

QEH fundraising executive and appeal co-ordinator Laurence Morlaas thanked auto club member Laura Reed, who works in the purchasing and supplies department at the hospital, for nominating the Special Care Baby Appeal to receive the club's support.

Laurence said she was asked to give a competitive presentation against two other charities and was delighted when the appeal was chosen.

Fakenham Racecourse MD David Hunter also gave a favourable rate for the use of the facilities and a valuable raffle prize – a Fakenham Racecourse 2010 racing season family voucher.

"The winner of the voucher, who wishes to remain anonymous, gave it back to the appeal so I have put it in our Christmas raffle as the top prize," said Laurence.
