Fakenham: Bookworm pupils set new reading record

FAKENHAM High School pupils have been raising money by the book for 12 years.

Their annual sponsored readathons have netted a total of 15,700 for charity and this year the school broke its own record by raising 2,663.

Headteacher Richard Moore said: "This is a fantastic achievement and I am very proud of the pupils."

The proceeds of the readathon are donated to the children's cancer charity, CLIC Sargent, and the Roald Dahl Foundation, which helps children and young people with brain and blood conditions.

The readathon is a nationwide event and Fakenham High School has taken part since 1997.

Year 7 and 8 pupils are sponsored by the page, chapter or book and encouraged to read all different types of written material.

Additional activities this year included students designing bricks to look like their favourite book, a literary competition and writing workshops led by first-time-published author Nadia Bashoo.
