Fakenham to fly the flag with huge Lottery grant
A PAGEANT about the history of Fakenham is among West Norfolk projects which will benefit from nearly £50,000 in Lottery grants announced yesterday.
Fakenham Parochial Church Council applied for an Awards for All grant to help fund the sound-and-light event planned for October. The venture will feature costumed actors and involve local residents, schools and other churches.
The church council will receive 9,181, towards the project.
Two other recipients will receive close to the 10,000 maximum allocation under the Awards for All small grants scheme. They are Heacham Cricket Club, 9,374, and St Clement's High School, 9,954.
The other beneficiaries are Castle Acre Coronation Bowls Club (7,694), and Marshland St James WI (7,706).
Heacham Cricket Club's grant will be used to buy extra equipment, including a roller to help with ground maintenance and a bowling machine to improve training and players' skills.
Pupils of St Clement's High School and community groups will be able to take advantage of out-of-hours activities thanks to the school's grant. Activities planned include trampolining and table tennis.
The award for Castle Acre Coronation Bowls Club will enable the club to replace an old and inefficient lawn mower and buy other equipment to maintain the green.
Marshland St James WI will use its grant to fund residential training courses in arts, crafts, music, IT and complementary therapies. Participants will share their knowledge with the local community.
The grants formed part of a 440,000 package of funding distributed to 71 groups across the East of England.
