Family helping at crash found son

A GRIEF-STRICKEN family have revealed they rushed to help victims of a car smash outside their home only to discover their son had been killed in the crash.

Former Marshland High School pupil Robert Hostler (17), pictured, was killed alongside his friend Claire Stubberfield (19), in her Ford Ka, just yards from his home in Walsoken on Wednesday, December 5, as previously reported in the Lynn News.

Robert's family, sisters Chantel (19), Samantha (16) and parents Robert and Joy, have been overwhelmed by the support of the community and outpouring of grief.

Chelsea FC banners and floral tributes have mounted at the scene of the crash in memory of Claire and football fan Robert.

Robert's mum Joy said: "He always had a smile and time for people, no matter how old they were."

The 42-year-old driver of a Jeep Grand Cherokee involved in the crash, remains on police bail after being arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. A third girl, who was also travelling in the Ka, was injured but escaped the crash alive.

An inquest into the deaths of Claire and Robert opened in Norwich on Tuesday. It heard Claire, of West Walton, was driving and Robert was a back-seat passenger when the crash happened. The hearing has been adjourned to a date to be fixed.
