Family touched by tributes to Shaun (17)
DONATIONS are flooding in to a memorial fund for popular teenager Shaun Barnes, who was killed on railway tracks at St Germans alongside friend Luey Storr.
A fund to buy sports trophies and a bench in memory of football fan Shaun is now topping 600, with donations including collections from his emotional funeral, the village store and a memorial football match organised by young friends.
It is thought Shaun and Luey, both 17, were walking home to Watlington after a night out in Lynn when they were hit by a train in the early hours of Saturday, December 8.
Mum Lynne Lasenby and husband Dave said they are deeply grateful to all of those who have supported them since Shaun's death, donated to the fund and helped keep his memory alive.
One of Shaun's friends donated his birthday money to the fund, and another set up a dedicated tribute page to him on website Bebo, which has been viewed more than 2,600 times. Many also took part in a South Lynn v Watlington football match organised in his memory in the village on Sunday, when 160 was collected.
Players, many of whom had been on the field alongside Shaun in the past, wore black armbands and applauded him for a minute before the match.
Organiser Gavin Hawes (16), of Runcton Holme, said around 70 people turned out to watch.
Among them was Mr and Mrs Lasenby and the eldest of the three younger brothers Shaun adored – Aaron (7).
Mrs Lasenby said: "It means so much to us to know his friends are doing things like this for him. We both had a lump in our throat and a tear in our eye to know they haven't forgotten him and are still thinking about him."
Shaun's funeral was so well attended the doors of the crematorium could not be fully shut and Mr Lasenby said there was a sea of Shaun's beloved Manchester Utd shirts.
Mr and Mrs Lasenby have now removed reams of flowers and tributes, placed at Watlington Railway Station for the boys, to prevent them getting lost or weather damaged. Luey's messages have been sent on to his family and Mr and Mrs Lasenby have gathered Shaun's in his bedroom at their Wensum Close home.
