Farewell after 25 years

YOUNGSTERS at the Anthony Curton Primary School at Walpole St Peter said a fond farewell at the end of last term to secretary Janet Roberson who has retired after 25 years.

Mrs Roberson (64) had been secretary of the school since it opened in 1983. "I have had some very happy years here," said Mrs Roberson, who lives at Walpole Cross Keys. She said the farewell event had been very emotional for her.

Pupils wrote and performed poems and stories for Mrs Roberson at a special get-together and there was also singing, including a rendition of a version of "Mrs Robinson" by the staff.

Headteacher Anne Senior handed over gifts of a paperweight, Spode china, jewellery and gift vouchers on behalf of pupils, staff and governors.

Mrs Senior said: "I have been head here for two-and-a-half years and Mrs Roberson has been so supportive.

"I know she has been the same to all members of staff. One of her nicknames is actually 'auntie'."

Mrs Roberson will still be seen around school, however, as she is taking on the role of a governor.
