Flats scheme for Lynn car site
A NEW housing development featuring a mix of affordable flats and apartments is being planned at a former car sales centre in Lynn.
Broadland Housing Association has just submitted plans for 23 dwellings at the Highgate Car Centre, on Gaywood Road, and if the scheme gets the green light it could be completed by late 2009 or early 2010.
Broadland development director Andrew Savage told the Lynn News the application will replace the existing planning consent for the site and will offer superior accommodation to what was originally proposed.
He said: "We bought this site about 18 months ago with the purpose of getting a better consent. The flats proposed were very small so we have increased them to affordable housing standards.
"We feel the accommodation is much better than was originally proposed.
"It is a contemporary scheme which I think will tidy up the area quite nicely."
Mr Savage said the development will be located close to Broadland's sheltered housing scheme at St Katherine's Court.
The scheme will include plans to block the existing access from Gaywood Road, with an alternative entrance proposed for the rear of the site.
The plans include a mix of one-bedroom and two-bedroom flats and apartments, four of which will have wheelchair access on the ground floor.
