Flats to rise from Lynn hotel ashes
NEW plans for the site of Lynn's historic East Anglian Hotel have got the support of heritage watchdogs.
The latest proposal from applicant Rexstone Properties would see 14 one and two-bedroomed flats in a four-storey building on the site on the corner of Blackfriars Road and Portland Street where the Victorian hotel stood before being controversially demolished.
A previous plan for 19 flats was thrown out in July after being deemed an unacceptable height and design in the conservation area, but planning officers have recommended the new proposals for approval at a meeting of West Norfolk's development control board today (Monday.
A report to the board says Lynn Civic Society finds the new application a considerable improvement on the previous one and raises no objection.
Planning officers conclude the application is "now acceptable subject to conditions to ensure the correct detailing is achieved on this landmark building which would be visually prominent to visitors entering the town from the railway station".
