Flush of success for Pink campaign
WEST Norfolk was awash with pink on Friday when people took part in the Wear it Pink campaign to raise cash for breast cancer research.
Staff at Images hair studio in Lynn's Blackfriars Street were bowled over by the support they received from the public when they dressed up as pink bunnies to raise cash for the charity – because they raised a fantastic 1,002 in buckets!
Images owner Mrs Annette McNaught said: "People were so generous, they were throwing money at us! We thank them for their support."
Sandringham Hospital went all out for the cause, releasing 100 pink balloons, wearing pink outfits and wigs, holding a pink raffle and getting through 100 pink ribbon doughnuts donated by Bakers Oven in Downham.
It was the second time staff at the hospital had taken part in the campaign, and they raised a bumper 530.18.
Director of nursing Miss Debbie Barnes said staff put special messages for families and loved ones affected by breast cancer on the balloons before they were released, and helium for the balloons was donated by The Party Shop in Lynn.
"The day was a huge success, and for quite a small hospital I think it was a fantastic amount raised," she said.
Staff at Clintons card shop in High Street, Lynn, donned fluffy pink cowboys' hats and feather boas for the day, and raised 100 for the charity with a collection at the tills.
The Lynn News also supported the cause, raising just over 150 by staff dressing up in pink and tucking into cakes, coffee and tea donated by colleagues.
