Former Downham student died in water-filled ditch
STAFF and pupils are mourning the tragic loss of a "smashing student with a ready smile" who was killed when her car crashed into a water-filled ditch.
Megan Warner (19) had recently completed studies in art and design, psychology and travel and tourism at Downham Sixth Form College and gone to work her way up at Evans clothes store where she had been a Saturday girl.
Sixth form head Martyn Alton said: "She was a smashing student – vibrant, popular and with a ready smile. We were all devastated to hear of her death."
Megan's red Ford Ka was discovered partially submerged in Old Croft River at Welney at around 5pm on Bank Holiday Monday.
Megan, lived with her parents in Leverington, near Wisbech.
A spokesman for Wisbech Evans store where she worked said: "She was loved by staff and customers. She was a lovely girl and she will be greatly missed."
Two years ago pretty Megan was an entrant in the Wisbech Rose Fair Carnival Queen contest.
Police are appealing for anyone with information about the crash to contact them on 0845 456 4567.
