Founder of Lynn help group dies
ELLEN Eade, the founding chairman of the Lynn and district group of the National Osteoporosis Society, has died at the age of 83.
A funeral for the mother-of-two, who suffered with osteoporosis for more than 30 years, will be held tomorrow at St Mary's Church, South Wootton, at 12.45pm, followed by a cremation at Mintlyn Crematorium.
Mrs Eade, who died on Wednesday, October 24, formed the local group with Edith Finbow in 1996 and quickly launched a committee of ten to help inform people about the fragile bone disease.
She organised many talks and wrote articles on the disease and also helped health professionals gain an insight into it from the patient's perspective. She retired as chairman through deteriorating health in 2003, but she and her husband Ken remained heavily involved.
Last year, at the group's tenth anniversary, she was given a certificate of appreciation by the National Osteoporosis Society as thanks for all her work.
Co-founder Edith Finbow said Mrs Eade never lost her enthusiasm for obtaining improvements for people with the disease.
"Despite many health problems she was unfailingly good-humoured and the group will miss her greatly," she said.
