Fund-raising Methwold mum says thanks
A MOTHER-OF-THREE whose cancer was discovered by doctors when she underwent a hysterectomy has raised £1,559 for the hospital which put her on the road to recovery.
Julie Moore (46), of Millgate Street, Methwold, organised a raffle for the oncology centre at Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge, after battling through five weeks of radiotherapy and chemotherapy there.
Surgeons unexpectedly discovered Mrs Moore had cancer when she underwent a hysterectomy last summer. The disease had got into her pelvis and cervix.
Mrs Moore said: "It's an horrendous experience. I was very, very poorly when I was having the treatment and there were times when I just wanted to stop it because it was making me so ill but the nurses were so good and always talked me round.
"Everyone at the hospital was so fantastic, they just couldn't help me enough and I wanted to give something back."
Mrs Moore sent thanks to her family and all the people and businesses who supported the raffle and her during her illness, especially her dad Abe Merrick, husband Wally (42), her three children and granddaughter Katie Manning (four).
Specialist gynaecological radiographer at the hospital, Mrs Katie Bradshaw, said: "To get through such a difficult treatment and be able to find the energy to do this for us is unbelievable and we are very, very grateful."
