Gardeners grow funds for Macmillan
CARING gardeners in Pott Row, Grimston, Roydon and Congham have presented £500 to Macmillan Cancer Support.
The money was raised at the Greenfingers Gardening Club's annual show thanks to support for a raffle, tombola and sales of refreshments and produce.
Club secretary Margaret Hodgkinson said the show was very well attended and attracted more than 300 entries. More than 4,000 has been donated to charity so far.
Mrs Hodgkinson said: "Members decide which charity they want to support. We have supported Macmillan before and made donations to Norfolk Hospice, Tapping House at Snettisham, East Anglian Air Ambulance, Hunstanton Lifeboat and Quidenham Children's Hospice."
Trophy winners were: Best vegetable trophy, highest points in vegetable classes, Derek Ovenden; fruit cup, Jenny Haywood; best in flowers cup, Alan Barlow; best horticultural exhibit, best pot plant, circular table arrangement, best flower arrangement, best in home produce, highest points in home produce, shortbread shield, paintings cup, Sarah Beart; highest points in horticulture, James Parker; highest points in non-horticultural, Joy Jeffery; handicrafts, Margaret Hodgkinson; younger children's cup, Liam Barford; older children's trophy, Abigail Smart; photography cup, Shelley Clynch; best photograph, Andy Bedwell.
