Gary's special gift to mark milestone

GENEROUS party-goers have given £620 to the Lynn News Special Care Baby Appeal.

Selfless Gary Cater, of Thetford Road, Northwold, asked for donations for the appeal in lieu of gifts for his 40th birthday.

Mr Cater, of coal merchants Bryan Cater's, has a two-and-a-half year old daughter Daisy and friends whose children have needed the help of Lynn's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, which the appeal supports.

He said: "I've never had a party before and didn't want presents.

"I thought it was a nice thing to raise money for."

The appeal aims to raise 150,000 for the Queen Elizabeth Hospital unit to enable a vital revamp and expansion, which will allow it to give lifesaving care to more babies.
