Gayton man with learning difficulties had burglary cash
A MAN with learning difficulties who admitted handling stolen goods following a break-in at a block of flats in Swaffham has been given a two-year conditional discharge.
Daniel Askew (19), of Mill House, Gayton, admitted handling a 20 note and a cash tin which was stolen from the flats when he appeared at Norwich Crown Court on Monday.
Mrs Deborah Steele, prosecuting, said a ground floor tenant in a four-storey block of flats was disturbed by noises upstairs and shouted.
She then saw two men leave the building and watched them through the window before later identifying Askew.
A cash tin containing around 250 had been taken from a first floor flat after entry was gained by forcing the front door.
The tin was later recovered from the recreation ground and Askew was found with 20 on him.
Mr Michael Clare, defending, told the court about Askew’s life-long mental difficulties before Judge Peter Jacobs passed sentence.
