Gaywood brick-throwers may strike again
A GAYWOOD cyclist knocked unconscious by brick-throwing youths has warned others may be at risk.
The 60-year-old man, who does not wish to be named, was cycling to work at the Gaywood end of Wootton Road at 5.40 am on Saturday when the attack happened.
Two yobs, seen hanging around the White Horse pub, launched what is believed to have been half a brick at the man as he cycled past.
The missile hit the man on the neck and shoulder, knocking him off his bike and leaving him bleeding, bruised and semi-conscious on the ground.
He told the Lynn News: "I lost control of my bike and the next thing I knew I was hitting the pavement. It was very painful – I landed on my chin.
"I shouted after them and they ran off down the side of the dog grooming shop. I got up dripping with blood and staggered to a relative's house in Gayton Road.
"I was very concerned about the amount of blood pouring from my face. I called my wife and washed my face with the outside tap and when I came out the garden, low and behold the two lads were there near my bike. I couldn't believe it – they were going to take it – but they ran off towards Gaywood Clock.
"I wonder if they followed me and they wanted to steal my bike all along."
Shaken, the man was taken to casualty at Lynn's Queen Eliazabeth Hospital where he received three stitches and glue weld to a cut under his chin.
"I have a swollen hand and a fat lip – I look like I've gone three rounds with Mike Tyson. If the missile had hit me a few inches more one way, I'd have had a stay in the hospital," he said.
The youths are thought to be aged around ten and 12 and both were white. The first is decribed as having a distinctive, bright blond mop of hair and the second was wearing a silky black hooded top.
The victim added: "It's taken a few days for me to get over what happened and to come to terms with it happening in the early morning – you would expect it maybe a night. Perhaps they find times when it's quiet to see what they can get away with, they were so brazen.
"My biggest fear is they pull the stunt again and the next person is not be so lucky. I would like to see these kids caught – if they can do it once they can do it again."
Police spokesman Miss Beth Manning said: "It was very early in the morning for two boys of this age to be out and about and we are certain other people would have seen them or recognise their descriptions. We would ask anyone with information to contact police as soon as possible."
A number of cars were driving by at the time of the attack and investigating officers would particularly like to speak to these witnesses.
Anyone with any information is asked to contact PC Natalie Riseborough at Lynn Police Station on 0845 456 4567.
