Gaywood death fire was 'accident'

POLICE and fire investigators have revealed the house blaze in Gaywood which claimed a man's life on Monday is not being treated as suspicious.

Firefighters were called to an address at Charlock, on the Grange Estate, at around 1.20pm and spent 40 minutes tackling the fire before it was fully extinguished.

Details of the fire have been very limited this week and police could only confirm that the body of a man was found at the scene.

Fire investigators and Home Office forensic scientists conducted a detailed examination of the house on Tuesday but the exact cause of the fire is still unknown.

Norfolk Fire Service spokesman Martin Barsby said: "This was an accidental fire. We do not know the exact cause yet as we are still looking at it and it will be subject to the coroner to say how he died.

"We completed our investigations on Tuesday morning and we will continue to work with the police and help them with their inquiries."

A spokesman for Norfolk Police also told the Lynn News the fire is not being treated as suspicious.

The man is not expected to be named until an inquest is formally opened by Greater Norfolk coroner William Armstrong.
