Gaywood girl's allergy problems solved
AN allergy problem, which saw a schoolgirl thrown out of class because she smelled of Lenor fabric softener, now appears to have been smoothed over.
The class teacher who had an allergic reaction to the fabric softener on Hope Nichols' clothes – and on one occasion asked the eight-year-old to sit in a corridor to do her work – has been told she can call on other staff to relieve her if she becomes ill again.
Gregory Hill, headteacher at Howard Junior School, said: "We have worked hard to try to reach a solution to this extremely unusual situation.
"Hope's teacher does suffer from a severe allergic reaction to the softener used to wash Hope's clothes and we have been working with both Hope's mother and the class teacher to try to resolve this issue. Hope is making good progress in her class. She is a much valued pupil."
Hope's mum, Mrs Sarahjayne Nichols, of Thoresby Avenue, Gaywood, said: "I don't think anyone could believe it. I haven't stopped using it because it is the only one that doesn't upset Hope's eczema."
