Gaywood school's awards for keeping fit
ENERGETIC youngsters at Alderman Jackson Special School have won top awards recognising their enthusiasm for sport.
The 61-pupil school in Gaywood gained both the Activemark and Sportsmark in 2007, described as "a fantastic achievement" by PE co-ordinator Leonard Perrott.
The awards recognise that more than 90 per cent of children at the school take part in at least two hours of high-quality physical activity each week.
Mr Perrott said the school's performance was exceptional within the National School Sport Strategy.
"Pupils can now display their new certificates signed by the Minister for Children and the Minister for Sport," he said.
A long list of fitness activities are offered to the pupils, who range in age from three to 19.
They are keen swimmers and enjoy football, cricket and athletics. They take part in gymnastic activities at Lynnsport and the Norfolk Youth Games at the University of East Anglia in Norwich.
At the school's youth club, snooker, table tennis and tenpin bowling are offered. They also completed last year's Tesco Great School Run held in the school grounds.
Mr Perrott said: "The children enjoy all sports, especially taking part together and supporting each other."
