Go-ahead for 95 homes in Gaywood
A SECOND piece in the jigsaw of a huge new development of homes has been slotted into place with the granting of planning permission for housing on a second chunk of land.
Ampere Property saw its application to develop land off Wootton Road, north of Gaywood River, with 95 homes get the thumbs up from West Norfolk Council's development control board last week. Permission is already in place for 150 homes on land south of the river.
Councillor Martin Storey led opposition against the new application, which is in a flood risk zone, saying he feared the council would be criticised in the future for allowing development there, but there was a majority against him.
A report to councillors said the Environment Agency, which has responsibilities relating to flooding and water control, said the development was acceptable despite it being in a zone three flood risk area – two steps above the lowest risk zone one. Councillors were told much of developed Lynn falls into a zone three area.
Under the proposals the developer will have to contribute toward primary school, library and fire service provision.
The development will have to include 20 homes for rent and nine shared ownership properties.
