Had too much? Hop on Lynn booze bus
A NEW scheme aimed at providing a safe haven for vulnerable pub and club-goers will be piloted in Lynn over the weekend.
The SOS bus will be manned by volunteers from a number of different agencies who will offer people a safe place to make free telephone calls, obtain basic first aid and to ensure they come to no further harm.
The scheme has been designed to protect anyone who is left feeling vulnerable through drink, drugs or violence while on a night out.
Licensing Sgt Paul Graves said: "The bus in Lynn will provide a safe environment for people to go if they are feeling vulnerable, have had too much to drink or are unsure how they are going to get home.
"It will be piloted over the next two weekends to see if it is effective or even needed in the town."
The scheme was first launched in Norwich in 2002 following the alcohol-related deaths of three young people in separate incidents after nights out in the city.
Partner agencies in the Lynn area include the police, West Norfolk Council, The Matthew Project and the Norfolk Drug and Alcohol Team.
The bus will be parked off Norfolk Street from 10pm on Saturday to 3am on Sunday.
