Help create Norfolk's biggest archive

RESIDENTS in West Norfolk are being asked to help create a picture of life in their towns and villages by contributing to the county's biggest-ever community archive.

The 260,000 Archiving Rural Community History (ARCH) project was launched by Norfolk County Council earlier this month and will see teams of volunteers being set up in libraries to help record people’s memories and impressions of where they live.

Material will then be added to the website www.remem bernorfolk.org where visitors from all over the world will be able to add their own accounts and pictures.

Director of operations Judy Youngs said: “If you are interested in history then it is fairly easy to research official documents such as records and meeting minutes, but they only give you one side of the picture. A community archive can really bring history alive by presenting places and events through people’s memories.”

Anyone interested in the project should contact their local library or call 01603 306595 or 01603 306584.
