'Help us to clean up Hunstanton'

COMMUNITY groups in Hunstanton are joining forces to spruce, preen and clean up the town ahead of this year's summer season and the arrival of Royal Horticultural Society judges.

This year the resort, which has earned a reputation for high-quality public spaces, has been invited to take part in the prestigious national competition Britain in Bloom.

The competition challenges communities to create attractive, sustainable planting and landscaping as well as finding innovative solutions to rubbish and graffiti.

To help make sure the town is at its best, Hunstanton Town Council has organised a spring clean for Sunday and everyone is pitching in.

Beginning at 10am at the Tourist Information Centre, town and borough councillors will be joined by volunteers from the town council, West Norfolk Council, Hunstanton’s Institute, Guides, Brownies and the Gardeners’ Association to banish litter.

Hunstanton Town Council spokesman, councillor Peter Mallam, told the Lynn News: “We are very proud of the town and this is a great way of bringing people from a whole host of organisations together to make positive improvements that benefit residents and visitors alike.”

Councillor Elizabeth Watson, ward member for Hunstanton and chairman of the Hunstanton in Bloom committee added: “It's a real honour for Hunstanton to be asked to join the RHS’s Britain in Bloom competition and recognition of the excellent standard of our open space, as well as being a great opportunity to showcase the area to a national audience.”

To find out more about the spring clean or to volunteer, call town clerk Lisa Powell on 01485 532402.
