HILGAY: Butcher’s bumper burger challenge
Hilgay butcher Ali Dent with one of his monster 4lb burgers ready for a fundraising charity night.
As burgers go, it’s a big ’un. But if you would like to take on an enormous eating exercise for a worthy charity, you have until tomorrow to enter Hilgay butcher Ali Dent’s Burgermeister Challenge.
So far, the prospect of munching through a 4lb, plate-sized burger to help Norfolk Hospice Tapping House has proved highly attractive to food fans.
Ali expects 60 to 80 people, individually or in teams of four, to accept the challenge, which is taking place at the Rose and Crown pub in Hilgay on Saturday, January 19.
In fact, it has proved so popular that a second challenge may be organised if the first is over-subscribed.
Ali said: “We have had so many people wanting to take part we might have to have another one.”
The monster burger will be contained in a huge bun, making each mega-mouthful nearly five inches deep.
Entry costs £15 per person and Ali can be contacted on 01553 387686. More information is also available on his Facebook page.
An audience of nearly 100 spectators is expected to witness the eating extravaganza, which will start at 7pm.
